Texas Satirist and Musician Richard “Kinky” Friedman has passed at age 79 [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-27 Here are the first three paragraphs from today’s The Texas Tribune about the passing of “Kinky Friedman”: Richard “Kinky” Friedman — the provocative and flamboyant Texas satirist who mounted a spirited campaign for governor in 2006 and was known for his boundary-pushing music and deep love for animals — died this week. He was 79. Friedman died at his longtime family home at Echo Hill Ranch in Medina, his friends Cleve Hattersley and Kent Perkins said. Friedman had Parkinson’s disease, Hattersley said in an interview. "He was a communicator. An unusual, but very pointed and poignant communicator," Hattersley said. "He could bring you to tears on stage. He could make you roll on the floor in laughter." I have all of his many funny and enjoyable “mystery” books (like ‘Scuse Me While I Whip This Out; Spanking Watson; & Armadillos & Old Lace), his CDs, and his DVD of “Live from Austin TX: Kinky Friedman”. He was funny. He was iconoclastic. He could be profane. But he was a totally human and caring man and shall be missed by many.
