No, Biden is not “finished.” Not even close. [1]

A lot of Democrats seem to be running for the fire exits after the first debate, but that’s just silly.

Think! How many times did people pronounce Trump “finished” in the run-up to the 2016 election, and again in the 2020 election, and now, as we approach the 2024 election? Yet he won in 2016, came close in 2020 (yes, the popular margin was about seven million, but a shift of only about 80,000 total votes in the swing states would have changed the result. I call that “close”), and is virtually tied with Biden today. By what logic can anybody conclude that Trump has the ability to survive multiple “fatal” mistakes, but Biden does not?

People who say that Biden is finished after yesterday’s debate are forgetting that the memory of the electorate as a whole lasts about as long as the life span of a mayfly. Plus, they are assuming that all the critical swing voters are going to judge the debate solely on their assessment of Trump’s “visible, physical” performance, and will ignore the lies and the truly horrible policies that he supports.

That might turn out to be true. But it might not. Let’s wait and see.
