The other one needed a reminder that he’s not running for dictator of North Korea. Today, the stakes in this race—freedom, democracy—are the same as yesterday. What to do? Recommit. It wasn’t Biden’s strongest night, especially at the start. Then, right after the debate, he gave a fired-up speech at a debate watch party. And then, today in North Carolina, he was on fire: x Folks, I might not walk as easily or talk as smoothly as I used to. I might not debate as well as I used to. The other lied his face off. Did it change the stakes in this election one iota? Also no. Trump refused to accept the result of the election—three times. Trump waxed poetic about his nostalgia for January 6. Trump couldn’t contain his enthusiasm for killing Roe v Wade. We know what Trump will do if he gets back into power—because he’s told us. For details, read up on Project 2025. The national abortion ban is just the start. Biden, too, has both a track record and a vision for the future. Defending freedom. Upholding democracy. Delivering for working people. That beats Trump’s record—ripping away freedom, attacking democracy, shoveling trillions of dollars to billionaires and huge corporations—every step of the way. Our job is to make the election about that. The actual stakes in people’s lives. We can’t let Trump’s nightmare vision become our waking reality. You can’t wring your hands if you’re rolling up your sleeves. Become a monthly donor here.
