Something YOU can do about the debate [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-28 Let’s level set here about this debate please: 1. It wasn’t a good debate for Biden. 2. It wasn’t a good debate for Trump. 3. A number of post-debate focus groups showed that Trump will probably be equally as damaged by his debate performance as Biden will be over the long run (but see #4 below for more). 4. Historically speaking, debates have a questionable impact on the outcome of an election. By all accounts Obama lost his first debate in his reelection year and Hillary won both her debates against Trump, we know how these elections turned out. Additionally (call this 4a if you like), I doubt independents, who already felt Biden was too old but Trump was too crazy so they were leaning toward Biden, saw anything they didn’t already believe to be true in that dumpster fire last night. So if Trump’s base is already as engaged as it can be, and independents are in the same boat they were already in, the only people who could damage Biden’s chances post-debate are HIS base. We don’t want to be the deciding factor in this election by turning against him because let’s face it, debate performance aside, the guy has been an amazing president. 5. The narrative is already emerging that Biden, the guy who was honest in the debate and who doesn’t have felony convictions, additional federal and state indictments, and sexual assaults following him around like a black cloud, is the candidate who should drop out. (??) It’s like we are living in upside-down land or something. Anyway, I highly doubt Biden is going to drop out of the race and at this stage in the cycle and I wouldn’t want him to because it would be chaos if he did. Biden is our candidate, I believe we need to support him and we must fight back against this narrative. 6. According to the Biden team, they had their best 2 hours of campaign donations ever in the hours leading up to the debate. So what can you do? If you agree that calls for Biden to step aside are probably doomed to fail (and that failure in itself would be harmful to Biden’s reelection) and you want to counter that narrative (see #5) your best option, short of NOT running around with your hair on fire screaming “oh nozz, Biden is going to lose”, is to show your support by chipping in a few dollars. The answer is easy: give a couple of bucks, whatever you can comfortably afford, to the Biden-Harris team AS SOON AS POSSIBLE…. like today or tomorrow. If enough people do that, it can help counter the narrative that we aren’t behind Joe….. again, going back to #5 above, Biden is almost assuredly going to be our candidate, so we might want to get on board with that. joebiden.com [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/6/28/2249365/-Something-YOU-can-do-about-the-debate?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=more_community&pm_medium=web Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
