The debate was an epic disaster.... for Trump [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-28 After last night’s debate, I may be wish-casting to a degree based on President Biden’s admittedly disappointing energy level, but I really do believe that the debate could turn out to be a debacle not for Biden but for loser Trump. Hear me out. I supported Bernie Sanders in 2016 & Elizabeth Warren in 2020, and I’ve come to believe Biden is one of the best presidents we’ve ever had. That said, I wanted him to pass the baton instead of running for re-election, though that would be risky in other ways. Personally I still think his plan is to resign after the halfway mark of his 2nd term, allowing Vice President Harris to run for 2 full terms — but that’s for another discussion. At this point I’m at peace that he IS our nominee, and we simply need to vote blue no matter who. Biden reassured me moments after the debate, watching him speak with supporters at his watch party and with randos at an Atlanta Waffle House — not to mention his rally today where he’s very energetic! The bottom line is whatever Biden’s issues, Trump did NOT have a good night and there are many ways this could haunt him moving forward: 1) No more rematch denial I think people are forgetting that one of the main reasons Biden was smart to push for this historically early debate is that voters were until very recently in denial that Trump would be actually be the QOP nominee. Having these two men on stage together has now crystallized the election as a binary choice. Voters are only now beginning to process this, and the debate removes any doubt moving forward. On this point, Biden is the clear winner. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out, but if voters increasingly realize the choice is between “oh no” or “hell no”, we have a strong chance of prevailing. Our Dem base will also continue to consolidate the clearer this becomes. 2) “Fitness to serve” contrast I appreciated CNN not only asking the same question to both candidates, but also letting Biden respond first — because WOW did Trump sound deranged, especially following Biden’s subdued but normal response! I mean, he could not help himself going on and on about the cognitive tests he “aced” multiple times, and I LOL’d when he brought up his “winning” of golf tournaments. Yikes! Do people think this made Trump look good?? Trump has far more ground to lose than Biden the more his dementia is exposed in the coming months. 3) Lying, aggrandizing, avoiding questions These traits do not play well with most people outside the QOP cult, who can generally detect BS. I was watching MSNBC, where their focus group underscored that Trump’s psychotic demeanor doesn’t fool most regular voters. One said how she was more frustrated with Trump actively ignoring each question (and bringing up golf) than with Biden’s energy level. Another voter, referenced above, said Trump is such a liar and rapist that he is still a “hell no” despite misgivings with Biden. It appears a Univision focus group was overwhelmingly pro-Biden based on the debate. x Undecided Latino voters in both the CNN and Univision focus groups liked Biden a lot more than they did Trump: pic.twitter.com/7sY9dXM4IA — Phoenix Woman 🍩 (@PhoenixWomanMN) June 28, 2024 I’d imagine part of that was that Trump’s favorite “pivot” to avoid answering questions was to demonize immigrants! He did that so many times — not very smart on his part but he’s a racist so he can’t help it. Pundits might not understand, but most real people don’t trust shady liars. He compounded this by constantly saying he was the best ever and Biden the worst ever on every topic. That is how children talk — as Biden pointed out. 4) Lots of new Biden campaign material On MSNBC before the debate, one of Biden’s campaign staff said how they were actively planning to splice up the debate for campaign material to push across all platforms. They certainly got a lot to work with, which will help shape the narrative moving forward. One of the most damning moments for Trump was when he openly admitted his Supreme Court justices “killed” Roe v. Wade: x Don’t be distracted. We can have a dictator or a democracy. Donald Trump proudly stacked the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade — and he won’t stop there. He also squirmed when asked repeatedly about accepting the election results, and that whole Nancy Pelosi bit… just wow. There’s a lot more where that came from that isn’t currently getting the attention Biden’s demeanor is, but I’m confident Biden’s kick-a** campaign team will get lots of mileage from Trump’s gaffes. At the end of the day, President Biden is clearly aware of the transitional nature of his presidency at this moment in time. That is not meant to minimize his impact or accomplishments — in fact, I believe this is part of why he’s been such a visionary compared to my initial expectations of his presidency. But there’s a reason every single event, administration communication, campaign communication, etc. is branded “Biden-Harris” and has been since day 1 of his presidency. He is clearly a strong manager & mentor, on top of all his other unsung accomplishments. And that gives me confidence to continue supporting him one last time, even as the mainstream media does their best to Swift Boat & But Her Emails his age, like they have been for years now while ignoring Trump’s cognitive decline. Screw them & f*** Trump, Team Biden-Harris has got this!
