Mayday in June (It's the Larceny, Stupid!) [1]

Consider the setting. Namely, a hop, skip, and a bail jump from the lately Trump-stained Lewis R. Slayton Courthouse; in studios once ruled by Trump pal/shill Jeff Zucker; under the aegis of a moderator (Dana Bash) who, on 1/12/16 effectively stumped for Trump by praising him to the skies while smearing then President Obama as “tired” and “worn out.” At a perhaps not-so-trusted news source’s HQ, a prolifically convicted felon (whom a civil court has found culpable for major carnal assault) took on our capable, decent, devoutly Catholic POTUS. Spewing dreck with near impunity, the Demagogue for Life somehow came across as seizing some sort of high ground/upper hand. (Sad.)

And wouldn’t you know? In a Virginia stump rant the very next day, Trump (with, at most, scant media blowback) had the inane, high octane, hypocritical gall to call President Biden “crooked.” (Shame.)

With such reality-warping optics holding sway, no wonder the Ocher Ogre/self-styled “Chosen One” looks to be pulling ahead in some polls.

Oh, well. What could possibly go wrong? (For a clear, distilled answer, cue the J6 footage- and more, by the ton.)

Sigh. You might say Orange is the New Normal- except that, in ANY vote-legitimized government, it’s not normal at all. Like it or not, report it or not, we didn’t change our colors from red, white, and blue to a mélange of yellow and red overnight. For decades, Orwellian as you please, we’ve conventionally hailed those who’ve striven to undermine (if not destroy) our democracy as “conservative.” “Patriotic.” And (God help us) “religious.”

Going forward, here’s the thing. Anyone who believes the Ocher Ogre’s win-or-coup onslaught can end well needs to recall Big Brother (uncannily presaging Big Blonder). Not to mention Orwell’s U.S. contemporary Sinclair Lewis- who, albeit posthumously, turns out to have been right on the money when he warned us that fascism CAN happen here.
