[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-29 Now I (like many I imagine here) watch a fair amount of news on various channels, and I have yet to hear her name come up, and frankly, I can't believe it. So I'll just ask: Why not consider bringing Hillary off the bench? I want to stipulate right away that I am not a proponent of giving Biden the broom over one shitty debate performance. Not with his amazing track record and the asshat he is up against in Trump. However, if we're gaming this out, here's my proposition for advancing Hillary into the top spot: SHE KNOWS THE PLAYBOOK Since stepping aside would have to be 100% Biden's decision, question one becomes who in the Democratic party is plug-and-play ready to run a national campaign for the POTUS with less than 20 weeks before election day? For better (and) worse, everyone knows Hillary. She’s been there, done that— and so have all of us with her. Plus, she beat Trump in 2016 by nearly 3-million votes. Would her name on the ballot rally Trumpers to the polls? Sure, but there aren't enough of them to give him the win. Estimates say he needs something in the neighborhood of 60% of independent voters to overcome the deficit he has in key states needed to win the electoral map, and for those on the fence who lived through four years of Trump and shutter at the idea of four more, Hillary is not the boogie-(wo)man she once represented for that crowd. Bottom line: She’s unlikely to lead to MORE votes for Trump; and more votes is what he needs, not fewer. INNER PARTY BEDWETTING The way the Hillary play gets around the aspiring power structure within the Democratic party doing the pee-pee dance; the ones waiting for the old guard to fuck off and die (sorry, I mean pass the baton) is set the table for the NextGenDems openly, and deliberately. The way to do that: Name Minority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries, as your VP candidate AND promise that you (Hillary) will serve one term only if you win. Make it a pact. That opens the door for all that want to push their way through (ie: Newsome, Whitmer, Shapiro, and the like). Add to that a public short list of possible cabinet members that represent the future of the Democratic party, and you give everyone something to look forward to on a short time horizon, which will energize them, and offer a much needed sense of relief that they can stop stressing about the end of the Republic and go back to watching “Love Island” on Peacock. Or so I hear they’re doing. THE KAMALA FACTOR Kamala Harris can't beat Donald Trump in a general election. Why is that so hard for the talking heads on TV to say out loud? She's amazing and so very accomplished and so very inspirational in a hundred different ways; but head to head on election day, Trump would cream her. And personally, I think her loss would come as a result of Democratic voters indifference about her as Commander in Chief, more than Trump supporters voting against her. She'd get eaten by her own. But I'm about solutions here. This plan doesn't work unless Biden AND Kamala agree on the path forward-- the exact path, and they do it together as the team that they are. The solution: Hillary promises that after she wins, the first Supreme Court vacancy that comes up (and there will be one or two), goes to Kamala and no one else. Kamala Harris as a justice on the SCOTUS would have an amazing generational effect anyway-- far more reaching than if she won the presidency and then got shit from the GOP every waking moment of every fucking day for four years, followed by getting destroyed in a reelection bid and blamed for whatever the fuck spineless Dems wanted to dump on her. SHORT STROKING THE BIG PICTURE There are other details in my plan, but those are the broad strokes and the three tallest hurdles the Dems would have to navigate right away. Hillary would OWN Trump too. She's two years younger, so the age thing is gone— unless the Orange Cheetolini decides she’s too young for the gig. Just her name gets under Trump's skin— not to mention her face. So he would be triggered for the next 100-plus days. Hell, the just the thought of Hillary's DOJ being in charge of prosecuting Trump for his outstanding indictments would keep the guy from sleeping a wink between now and November 5th. And what could be better television than a sleep deprived, triglyceride-filled, method actor politician like Trump? So what do you think-- should the DNC hire me as a strategist right away, or call the rubber room police to come and take me away? Come and take me away?
