[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-06-29 That was panic. The vice-president had been pretty well excluded from cabinet meetings and daily reports at the height of WWII. He was a little known political lightweight from Missouri and people were terrified by the abrupt transfer of power. FDR had been president for more than a decade and had brought the US our of the Great Depression and in to the great war. That terrifying moment brought us Harry Truman, one of our strongest and bet presidents. Now we are at a time of world tension, but at a time of peace. We have survived the covid pandemic and the economy is coming back well. Yes Biden is old, and rather tottery at times, and yes, he has occasional verbal lapses and confusions, but Biden’s vice president is not out of the loop. Kamala Harris is a vital part of the President’s program and taking the lead in the fight for reproductive rights and for diplomatic involvement in the Western Hemisphere — something Biden's opponents probably couldn’t find on a map. So there is strong backup for Biden’s program over the next four years. And Biden is not senile or stupid. He, like FDR before him, can be president and be effective without having to tap dance. He knows how to get things done, he is not a man defined by a 90 minute speech that didn't go well, but by many speeches that did and do go well. (Noting wrong with his rally in North Carolina or is fund raisers in New York. He knows the difference—as he said, between right and wrong, and unlike his opponent knows how to tell the truth. Don’t panic. Pay attention. Have faith.
