Daily Kos: Daily Kos Elections [1] ['Daily Kos Staff'] Date: 2024-06-30 French President Emmanuel Macron, who unexpectedly called legislative elections three years earlier than required. Polls have closed in France, which is holding the first round of elections for its national legislature. Feel free to use this thread to discuss the results. To win in the first round, a candidate must receive both a majority of votes cast and an amount equal to at least 25% of registered voters in their constituency. In contests where no one wins in the first round, a runoff will take place on July 7. Runoffs automatically include the top two finishers, but any candidate who wins votes from at least 12.5% of registered voters may also advance. If more than two candidates advance, only a plurality is needed to win, though qualifying candidates may also decline to participate in runoffs. For an overview of the race, check out our election preview interview with Bolts editor-in-chief Daniel Nichanian on “The Downballot” podcast.
