Open letter to President Obama [1]

Mr. President,

President Biden must not step aside. That would only guarantee chaos and a Trump victory that would be devastating to our republic. President Biden must stay at the top of the Democratic Party ticket. However, a change is essential if there is to be a win in November.

That change must be for the Vice President. Neither President Biden nor Donald Trump is likely to still be with us at the end of the term in 2028. The term is likely to be completed by the elected Vice President. Kamala Harris is simply not strong enough to carry the election, especially at this late date. There is only one candidate who is strong enough and likeable enough to carry the day for the Democrats.

You know her well – she is “the other Obama”, Michelle.

Michelle Obama can and, if nominated, will win the election for Joe Biden and the Democrats in Congress. She will not, however volunteer for the job. It is here that you, like American democracy, face the greatest challenge of your career. It will take all your skills (and the Good Lord’s help) to accomplish this. Michelle is the only person who could replace Kamala Harris without tearing apart the party.

Kamala Harris will have to resign for her own reasons (unelectable) and Michelle would have to be persuaded to run on a “Save American Democracy” ticket. Michelle is also young enough and strong enough to run in 2028 perhaps with Pete Buttigieg as her VP. The nation would be looking at 16 years of progressive and courageous leadership, leadership that would save the US, elect a democratic congress and return balance to the Supreme Court.

Please dig deep into your reserves of courage as well as hard core political reality and get this done.

You were too kind to get Ruth Bader Ginsberg to resign in time for you to nominate a moderate judge. The result is a Supreme Court anchored in the rabid right wing of American politics. Here is your opportunity for redemption. Only you can get this done. Please do not lose courage when your nation needs you most
