We didn't get a Primary, We deserve serious consideration of a Replacement [1]

Let me be transparent. I do not think Biden is the right option for our party to present to voters in November. I base this on his performance last Thursday. If this perspective offends you, please skip this story.

Biden was at times not sharp and other times incoherent. He could neither defend himself nor prosecute a case against Trump. This reality makes no judgment on Biden as a person. It is simply the fact that his age has taken from him what it takes from all people. Socrates was a man. All men are mortal. Socrates was mortal.

There is no one on this site who won’t vote for Biden in November. However, the party and administration made it clear last year that no one ought challenge Biden, lest they be pariah to the Democratic Party.

If there had been a primary, and Biden had performed poorly in an early debate, many on this site would rightly advocate for another candidate. Neither party got to see their candidate perform prior to their coronation. Any suggestion that considering a replacement is undemocratic is an entirely false argument, as no serious democratic process occurred.

We have a strong bench of replacement candidates. We deserves the right to consider them seriously prior to the convention. Moreover, the many voters not beholden to either party deserve a considered choice.

Biden is not a king. He does not earn anyone’s vote by fiat. Of course Trump is unqualified, but the Republican Party has put him forward as their candidate anyway. Shouldn’t we be presenting our best option for the next four years? Don’t we owe that to both our party and the electorate in general? What is so terrible about taking a sober and open-minded approach to this question?
