I will not belabor the point given the overall climate right now, but, this is why the DOJ was supposed to convict the other ring-leaders first (based on detailed evidence of the planning of the attack which it seems they have not actually been able to obtain), and not go straight for Trump (as I wrote about here). The case before the Supreme Court might have looked much different, had that been the case. And the case in the court of public opinion would vastly stronger, as well. But now is no longer the time to point fingers. We are on the precipice of a volcano. We either break free, or get pushed in. With that in mind, I want to talk about what the Democratic candidate needs to say at the next debate. At this point, I am thinking that candidate should be Biden, because given that we have lost the Supreme Court, we need the President at the top of the ticket. But I will let others decide that, trusting they will make the right decision. But here is what the candidate must say, when they are face to face with Donald Trump in the next debate (and they can certainly say it prior to then on the campaign trail, as well). “You just heard the former President tell you about his plans for his next term in office, if elected. Let me tell you what his plans really are. In 2020, the American people voted this man out of office. If you elect him back to that office this year, he will never allow you to do that again. He will spend his entire four years working to take this power away from the American people. In states controlled by Republican governors or legislatures, he will drive laws allowing those Republicans to control the state’s vote, so that the popular vote in those states can be manipulated or over-ruled. As for states controlled by Democrats, he will aim to have his Republicans in Congress pass federal legislation allowing Congress to reject votes from those states. In this way, he will entirely control the legal outcome of the next election, and it will be impossible to remove him, no matter how many Americans should vote against him. And there will be voter suppression at the polling places as well, driven by corrupt laws. Meanwhile, he will seek to amend the Constitution to allow him to serve a third term. He has already said that he wants to do this. Bear in mind that he will not wait to amend the Constitution legally. He will just as soon take an illegal way to do it, perhaps by declaring a state of emergency or martial law, and then seeking to amend or bypass the Constitution on his own authority. And backing everything, there will be the Supreme Court. His court, which has already taken away so many of your rights, and given him vast legal immunity for his corrupt acts, will rubber-stamp every move he makes to take control of the entire electoral process. Finally, there will be the use of force, as he will control the military, police, and security forces. And today’s Supreme Court has now given him the authority to use those forces in any way he chooses. He will do so. He will make America like Russia, where they hold elections but Putin wins every time, and those who attempt to vote against him risk jail or death. My fellow Americans, if you vote Donald Trump back into office this year, you will never have the opportunity to peacefully remove him from office. Ever. And we will all lose our democracy. In the process, we will also, slowly but surely, lose our greatness as a country, because democracies flourish as great nations, and dictatorships do not. It is a fact of history, and one all Americans should know because of how we have benefited from this fact. But we cannot take it for granted. My opponent offers the path of dictatorship. Do not mistake it. As for myself, I offer the path of democracy, rule of law, and equality under the law—all the traits that have made America the greatest nation on Earth. Tonight, I ask you for your vote, for the sake of your family, your grandchildren’s grandchildren, and future of our country. Thank you.” [END] --- [1] Url: https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/7/1/2250513/-3-5-Years-After-Jan-6-What-the-Democratic-Candidate-Must-Say?pm_campaign=front_page&pm_source=latest_community&pm_medium=web Published and (C) by Daily Kos Content appears here under this condition or license: Site content may be used for any purpose without permission unless otherwise specified. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/dailykos/
