If It Isn't Crystal Clear We Are Now Fighting Fascism... [1]

We are all Exhausted. Depressed. Enraged. Scared, and Exasperated. Between the recent infighting over what to do about Biden, and the slew of SCOTUS rulings more worthy of unhinged pro-business Christian Ayatollahs-- we all just want to crawl up into the fetal position, draw the blinds, and never get out of bed.

If we must do that today, fine, but shortly thereafter “we” and anyone who truly believes in Democracy and a viable future , must collectively pull themselves together, and begin analyze where we still have power ( The States, mass disobedience, targeted corporate campaigns, elections etc, mutual aid) and how to best apply it. The time for leaving our armchairs is now.

If we start from the premise that many of our views are mainstream ( abortion rights, for example), that the majority of Americans truly detest this court and what it stands for, then we must start acting like it— using any militant non-violent means of bringing the fascists to heel as necessary. The worst happens only if we let it happen, only if we agree there is no hope, only if we blithely let the situation stand.

Here is what WE CANNOT DO: we must not go into a doom spiral, get lost in the rhetoric of despair, or get bogged down in petty shit ( which the media is happy to see$$). I hope Judge Merchan is watching these larger legal dynamics as he considers his sentence against Trump. I hope that we can marshal our best orators ( Bernie Sanders, AOC, Gavin Newsom...you may disagree with this list, but they are just my own thoughts) to educate America as to the full measure of the threat of the moment, and what we can and must do about it. Short term and long term.

We should all take the historical example of all oppressed minorities in this country, whose ancestors ( Slavery) lived under fascism and totalitarianism, and must learn and be inspired by their lessons of resistance. Civil Right, Labor, Environmental activism are all in play...

Power is a funny thing; sometimes it is the appearance of total power that is far more potent than the actuality of power. But here ia truth that is often ignored: In every case, from the more benign to more extreme cases throughout history, the populace does have choices and agency. Simply put, Our consent is one of the pillars of power. If we don’t cooperate, it makes it harder for the bastards to enact their dreams, so non-cooperation on every level, is something we should think about. I could go on. The lessons from the past are available and we need not give up hope. Solidarity.
