Biden and Harris will be nominated in 3 to 5 weeks via virtual roll call [1]

The Biden-Harris nomination vote in 2020 was conducted via virtual roll call votes, and it was well received.

In 2020, the COVID lemon turned into lemonade with the “Roll Call Across America,” a slick video package starring delegates in their home states and territories casting votes, often from meaningful places — and telling why it was important for Biden to be elected. The roll call was visually interesting, tight, original and deemed effective in driving pro-Biden messaging.

The DNC wants to do it again this year, and there is another incentive now. The contest for Senate majority is very tight and losing it would have serious consequences for judicial appointments of SCOTUS and the hundreds of other federal judgeships (among other Senate work of course). We need Senator Brown to win his tight race and so to help draw more turnout, Biden-Harris will need to be at the top of the ticket.

But Ohio requires prez candidates to be nominated by August 7, two weeks before the Democratic National Convention. Working out an arrangement with Ohio Republicans was attempted but well, they’re Republicans.

The plan for the virtual roll call was approved almost unanimously on July 20 by the Democratic National Committee:

On Thursday, members of the Democratic National Committee approved moving up the Biden-Harris nomination and to allow for an “electronic” roll call. The vote was 360 for, two against and five abstaining. The date for nominating Biden and Harris has not been set, but it will be before Ohio’s Aug. 7 deadline. chicago.suntimes.com/...

According to Bloomberg: “Party could formally nominate Biden as early as July 21”
