Einstein’s Revenge and the Trump Exodus [1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-07-02 In 1933, Albert Einstein fled Germany and moved to the United States. Einstein left a Germany that was quickly becoming Nazi, that is to say was quickly becoming racist, white supremacist, and xenophobic towards Jews, homosexuals, and other people who didn’t fit the “superior race” fantasy. In 1939, Einstein sent a letter to President Roosevelt which described the possibility of building an atomic bomb. The letter said Germany was working on such a bomb and that the U.S. should begin work, too. The letter led directly to the U.S. Manhattan Project and the atomic bomb. As it happened, Germany was defeated before the first atomic bomb was constructed. There would have been a sweet irony, i.e., Einstein’s revenge, had the bomb defeated Germany, although a man like Einstein would probably have taken no satisfaction in such a victory. Suppose the Nazis had respected truth enough to reject their racial doctrines. Suppose they had not driven Einstein to the U.S. Suppose they had built an atomic bomb and used it in the war. Then today we might be speaking of New York and Washington D.C. instead of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And there might be an East German U.S. and a West Japanese U.S. New York and Washington D.C. instead of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Which brings me to the Trump Exodus, the title of a reddit.com post I read today. Here it is. The Trump Exodus If Trump is elected again, it will set back science and medical research by decades. I haven't seen this mentioned before, but MANY of our scientists, doctors and researchers are not Americans. Many come from EMEA, ASPAC and elsewhere. They come to America to get a good education, a PhD, grants, and work with peers to advance science and medicine. I've been to many events over the years, and the sheer amount of foreign-born professionals is hard to ignore. And they often stay in America working diligently within government backed sciences, for the benefit of ALL Americans. I also know for a fact, that many were afraid of what Trump would do with them the first time. Kick them out, put them in camps, separate them from their children, or simply pull their cancer research funding. And I can't say that I blame them; they had reason to worry. The next time, with Project 2025 and Trump, and the corrupt SC, they have even more reason for concern. And just as important, they realize that many Americans share Trump’s anti-immigrant views. They don't feel safe here; they don't feel welcome. If Trump wins another term, we will see an exodus of these esteemed professionals, combined with reduced research grants, rolling back health regulations, and taxing the hell out of everyone via tariffs. Cures will go down as our overall health will be attacked by corporate greed, and we'll ALL pay for it. America will be worse off for it and it will set back important research by decades, at minimum. So, yeah, if you're still voting for Trump, after everything that's happened, then you're not worthy of calling yourself an American. https://www.reddit.com/r/Trumpvirus/comments/1dtg81i/the_trump_exodus/ In 1980, I ended my math graduate studies (Yes, I’m a Ph.D. dropout) and went to work for the MIT Lincoln Laboratory near Boston, modifying the FORTRAN code for a physicist. The code modeled laser propagation in the atmosphere. The physicist was European; he vacationed in Europe every July. Later, I worked in Boston’s Brigham and Women’s hospital with a Hungarian physicist, then returned to Philadelphia and worked in Jefferson hospital and the now defunct Hahnemann Hospital. In the hospitals, I did mostly image processing, attempting to have the computer extract medical info from x-ray, CAT scan, MRI, and echo images. A large percentage of the hospital physicians I knew had a Jewish, Indian, or Japanese heritage. I’m particularly grateful to a Hahnemann cardiologist with a Japanese surname who operated on my father, but that’s another story. In the 1970s, the United States was criticized for the “brain drain” where people of other countries who possessed a high level of expertise and intelligence were persuaded to emigrate to the U.S. Today, Trump’s MAGA morons have given the phrase “brain drain” new meaning. The Red State Brain Drain Isn’t Coming. It’s Happening Right Now. As conservative states wage total culture war, college-educated workers—physicians, teachers, professors, and more—are packing their bags. - https://newrepublic.com/article/176854/republican-red-states-brain-drain Once upon a time, the U.S. had two major parties, Republican and Democrat, along with some minor parties, such as the Socialist Party. Today, the U.S. has two major parties, Democrat and Trump’s Fascist Traitor Party. The genuine Republican Party today is about as popular as the Socialist Party. If Trump’s Fascist Traitor Party wins, America loses – the only question is when and how much we’ll lose. New York and Washington D.C. instead of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. New York and Washington D.C. instead of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
