It is almost impossible to contemplate. It’s like seeing 2+2 = 5. So we do everything to try and deny what’s in front of us. To not seem pessimistic. To not seem fatalistic. To try, somehow, to keep hope alive.

So now my anti-fascist, democracy-supporting brethren put their last hopes in the election. Sadly, horrifically, these are futile hopes. Because sadly, horrifically, the results of the coming election have already been made meaningless.

Trump might win and it’s over.

But even if Biden wins.. it’s still over.

It’s not complicated. So Biden wins the election. The fascists are prepared — and are preparing — to contest every loss in any state in court.

The critical cases — enough to flip the results — will end up being decided by.. wait for it…. wait for it…. nah. You know the answer.

The court that just took the step, by fiat, to end our democracy. A giant step. Kinda did the job all by itself. You think, somehow, magically, they’ll reverse course regarding the election??

And what are we going to do? What’s left? Secession? Violence?

Much more likely there’ll be violins in the streets. (with apologies to Gilda Radner).

They’ll be playing a dirge.
