Old(ish) Books for New Times [1]

Two books have become necessary reading.

Secondly, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 by Hunter S. Thomson. '72 was a watershed moment in US politics where party loyalty and the use of media trumped policy and position. It set the stage for the electoral world we have been living in since Bush v. Gore.

First and foremost, Philip K Dick is Dead Alas by Michael Bishop, in which parallel realities have shifted and we are living in a world with King Richard, Tricky Dick Nixon ensconced as President for Life and absolute dictator. When he wrote it, there were elements of escapist fantasy that today read as a chilling cautionary tale!
