Replacing Joe is a Hail Mary. This is a Hail Mary situation. [1]

Lots of commenters here and elsewhere saying that Joe stepping aside is too extreme of a step to take with four months to go. I’d argue it is the only step available to us at this point. Consider the following:

Joe was losing before the debate. He’s losing worse now, but only just. That’s actually the worst possible outcome— indicates there’s no room for improvement The debates were his biggest, best chance to change the narrative. He failed miserably. I think it’s extremely unlikely Trump will debate again. He has nothing to gain. Prominent D’s are asking him to step aside. This looks, ahem, BAD for us in the media. Only question is whether enough will ask him to step aside to make him do it. What other events can you imagine that can possibly move the needle at this point? The economy can’t get any better. Prices aren’t going to magically go down. As we all know, things are actually going pretty well. If people don’t accept that, no amount of evidence will convince them. edit to add: Trump’s criminality has done all the damage it will. SCOTUS and Cannon made sure of that.

So, there’s our reality. There’s no deux ex machina coming to save us. If he steps aside, we’ll probably lose. If he doesn’t, we definitely will. That’s Hail Mary time to me.



I will be writing my congressman asking him to tell Joe to step aside. I recommend you do the same, whichever way you feel.
