[1] ['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.'] Date: 2024-07-02 Looks like an empty bucket today so here I go to fill it up with Wildflowers of the Eastern Florida Panhandle. East and West is defined by the Apalachicola River that runs south from the Alabama/Georgia borders. Or depending on your fave college FB team — GA/AL borders. It’s all highly contested and I’m thankful for this insane level of non-political rivalry. Some of these photos may be in previous comments — but so few see my late comments : ) Not much to add other than notes on each photo. Thanks for stopping by for this Daily Bucket! Piriqueta — unusual double flower in my front meadow. Been there surviving for decades before I rescued it from heavy mowing 17 years ago. Angelica venenosa — Angus Gholson Nature Park near the magnitude 4 springs. The lowest noted spring, likely ground water down thru slope hitting deeper clay. Carolina Petunia -- Looking it up one more time, I learned it is a host for Common Buckeye caterpillars. But then I’ve never seen that... bonus — Crab Spider as I took side view.. Back to Gholson Nature Park — Scutellaria one of 2 in that genus, 1 a few months ago, this 1 now. funny part is I saw them both in same place along the Ridge trail. Dead stalks on first. Ocala Anise — native to north central FL Peninsula but grows easily here. Fruit looks much like our local Anise but ours has amazing red flowers. makes an excellent always green border from that neighbor next door. and yesterday as I went out late and walked up into front meadow to do some weedin’ and grubbin’ — the early storm from NW ended my effort within minutes… Best rain I had in several weeks. Liatris sticking up all over. Beating back the Liatris Gall flies is a big challenge as pops explode with each gen several times into fall. Eggs in top center spike become eggs in each stem flower really fast. and done — almost ready for late rain here. See y’all in comments with your local observations.
