A lesson from British politics is that if you let right-wing weirdoes present themselves as unrepresented victims then they can & will slowly grow their base¹ by engaging those who mindlessly hate all politics, or who want to stick up a finger at the establishment.

So in the wake of the European elections (which I suspect the French people view in the same laissez-faire manner that the British did²) is it not wise for Macron to “lance the boil” and force the French electorate to decide if they really want to be fascists?

Because merely hoping they will go away — permitting the right wing excessively steep like bad tea — can lead to unwelcome outcomes.

¹ Left-wing weirdoes are generally too busy infighting to pull this off

² e.g. the Brexit Party was represented there, but not in Westminster
