[1] ['Cindy Ramirez', 'More Cindy Ramirez', 'El Paso Matters'] Date: 2024-04-08 On Tuesday, May 28, El Paso voters will cast ballots in the 2024 primary runoff election, deciding the Democratic nominees for district attorney, county sheriff, District 77 state representative and Precinct 1 constable, as well as the Republican nominee for District 23 U.S. representative. A runoff was necessary in March primary races where no candidate earned more than 50% of the vote, leaving the two candidates with the highest number of votes to face off again. The winner of each runoff race will head into the November general election to face the opposing party’s challenger. If there’s no challenger in November, the winner of the primary runoff will be considered to have won the seat. Here’s what you need to know about the May 28 primary runoff: Can I vote in the runoff if I didn’t vote in the March 5 primary? Yes. If you did not vote in the general primary election, you are still eligible to vote in the primary runoff of either party. If I voted in the March primary, do I have to vote in the same party in the runoff? Yes. You can only vote in the same party’s runoff. How do I check if I’m registered to vote? Check your registration status with the El Paso County Elections Department or the Texas Secretary of State’s Office. What if I’m not a registered voter? There’s still time. The last day to register to vote in the May 28 primary runoff is April 29. Early voting runs from May 20-24. How do I register to vote? You must complete a paper application and return it to the El Paso County Elections Department by April 29. Applications are available at the Elections Department, 500 E. San Antonio Ave., Ste. 315, inside the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse. You can download a printable PDF application directly from the elections department website. The application is postage paid, self-addressed and ready to mail. Applications can also be found in any U.S. Post Office branch, the Department of Public Safety, El Paso Public Libraries, Texas Health and Human Services Commission offices and local high schools.
