Holocaust Days of Remembrance Commemoration The El Paso Holocaust Museum & Study Center will commemorate Yom HaShoah during an event starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Congregation B’nai Zion 805 Cherry Hill Lane. Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Days of Remembrance, memorializes the six million Jews and five million others killed by the German Nazis during World War II. It also honors those who survived. This year’s theme, “Never Again, Again,” will highlight the rise of antisemitism in the United States. Speakers from the museum’s Youth Advisory Committee will read area survivors’ testimonies, and 11 candles honoring the 11 million victims will be lit. Admission is free. Tim Hagerty, El Paso Chihuahuas broadcaster and author of El Paso Matters Book Club pick, ‘Tales from the Dugout,’ at Southwest University Park on Feb. 26. (Corrie Boudreaux/El Paso Matters) El Paso Matters Book Club Talk The El Paso Matters Book Club will host a moderated discussion with baseball announcer and author Tim Hagerty about his book “Tales from the Dugout” next week. The discussion with Hagerty, announcer for the El Paso Chihuahuas, will be led by longtime Borderland sportswriter Steve Escajeda. A question-and-answer session will follow the discussion. The event is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 at the Clardy Fox Library, 5515 Robert Alva Ave. The event is free but registration is encouraged. (Courtesy Mighty Mujer Triathlon) Mighty Mujer Triathlon The Mighty Mujer Triathlon El Paso is set to begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Memorial Park, 3251 Copper Ave. The all-female event provides in-person and virtual options, including Super Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon, Aquabike, Bike-Run, Run/Walk and Relay Teams. The in-person course begins with a 300-yard swim at the Memorial Park pool, followed by a bike route and run course. Virtual options include participating on a stationary bike or treadmill. Information: Mighty Mujer Triathlon El Paso Symphony to Perform ‘Swan Lake’ The El Paso Symphony Orchestra will perform a live score of Tchaikovsky’s “Swan Lake” for the World Ballet Company’s show at the Plaza Theatre, 125 W. Mills Ave. in Downtown next week. The ballet includes numbers such as “Dance of the Little Swans,” “Black Swan Pas de Deux” and the waltz. Performances begin at 7 p.m. Monday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 9. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets start at $51. Tickets and information: El Paso Live Kids to Parks Day Encourages Outdoor Play The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting two family-friendly events this weekend to promote outdoor play and family fitness. Kids to Parks Day is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Lomaland Park, 715 Lomita Dr with activities such as tug-of-war, plus jumbo games, face painting, sack races, jumping balloons and food trucks. The day encourages outdoor play and is part of the National Park Trust. Live Active El Paso will participate in National Fitness Day with a fitness dance event at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Eastwood Park, 3110 Parkwood St. Fitness dance sessions, live music, health and wellness booths will be part of what’s billed as a “glow stick-filled dance party.” Live Active El Paso promotes health and wellness, encourages physical activity, improved nutrition and strong mental health.
