Mexican citizens residing abroad may only vote online and in person in the June 2 Mexican presidential election if they were registered to vote by Feb. 25, according to the country’s National Election Institute website.

To vote online, citizens need a valid Mexican voter identification card number and should have received an email by May 3 with their username and password to access the online voting system, according to the institute.

Over 1.3 million Mexican registered voters live abroad, according to the Wilson Center’s Mexican Institute. About 240,000 of them received voter I.D.s from the Houston and Dallas Mexican consulates, the Texas Tribune reports.

In October 2023, Mexico announced a program allowing citizens residing abroad to register and vote in person at authorized Mexican embassies or consulates. Consulates in Houston and Dallas are the only ones in Texas approved for in-person voting, the institute’s website states.
