Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn pushes for DeSantis to stay 4 years as governor [1] ['Mitch Perry', 'More From Author', '- December'] Date: 2022-12-21 Following a pardon from then-President Donald Trump, former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn has emerged as a conservative culture warrior, getting involved in local politics in Sarasota County and speaking to audiences around the country. Flynn moved to Englewood in south Sarasota County in 2021 and has since become active in the Sarasota Republican Party. He now serves on the Sarasota Republican Executive Committee, but his preferred candidate in the race for Sarasota Republican Party Chair fell short earlier this month. “I live in the southern part of Sarasota,” he said. “In Sarasota County, it’s like the North v. the South down there. There’s an extraordinary amount of corruption that we have exposed, sadly,” Flynn said Tuesday night in a speech in Clearwater to the Tampa Bay Trump Club. Flynn weighed in on a decision that Republicans nationally and especially in Florida may have to make in 2024: Whether to back Gov. Ron DeSantis or former President Trump for the Republican nomination for president. “You know what I want Ron DeSantis to do?” Flynn said. “I want Ron DeSantis to stick around for four years.” The pro-Trump crowd cheered loudly. “I want him to raise holy hell not just here in Florida, but I want him to set an example for the rest of the governors in this country,” Flynn said. It shouldn’t be surprised that Flynn remains a Trump supporter. After beginning his military career in the early 1980s, Flynn rose up the ranks and was promoted to Lt. General in the U.S. Army before becoming the 18th Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2012 under President Barack Obama. But he clashed with the White House and was ousted from the agency in 2014. He wrote in a memoir that he felt that Obama was not aggressive enough, according to NPR. Flynn then became an early supporter of Trump’s race for president in 2015 and an influential adviser on foreign policy and national security. After Trump won the presidential election, he picked Flynn to serve as his National Security Adviser. But in January 2017, Flynn pled guilty to charges by special counsel Robert Mueller of “willingly and knowingly” of making “false, fictitious and fraudulent” statements to the FBI regarding conversations with Russia’s ambassador. He resigned a month later. Trump then pardoned him just before Thanksgiving in 2020. Flynn also serves as chairman of the board of America’s Future, Inc., a nonprofit in Florida, and he announced Tuesday night at the Tampa Bay Trump Club that the group will be launching a project in the next few years to combat child sex trafficking. The project is called “Project Defend and Protect Our Children.” Flynn doled out plenty of conservative red meat in his Clearwater appearance on Tuesday night, calling those on the political left “Marxists” and Socialists,” and said that “we are being pinned to the ground.” “We have the boot on our neck and we have the yoke around our necks weighing us by name-calling, by labeling.” Flynn made remarks about how online booksellers Amazon and Barnes & Noble had allegedly dropped selling his book The Citizens Guide to Fifth Generation Warfare from their websites. However, on Wednesday, customers were able to purchase the book on both websites. On Amazon’s website, the book is number one in the “New Releases in Popular Social Psychology & Interactions.” [END] --- [1] Url: https://floridaphoenix.com/2022/12/21/former-national-security-advisor-michael-flynn-pushes-for-desantis-to-stay-four-years-as-governor/ Published and (C) by Florida Phoenix Content appears here under this condition or license: Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/floridaphoenix/
