FL Dems rebrand Spanish channels as statewide voter registration tour begins [1] ['Jackie Llanos', 'More From Author', '- August'] Date: 2023-08-02 The Florida Democratic Party changed its social media strategy to re-engage the Latino community ahead of the Wednesday launch of a statewide tour to increase voter registration. The Dems ditched the “Vamos Demócratas” username on Facebook and Instagram in favor of the Spanish translation of the party’s name, Partido Demócrata de Florida, to increase branding recognition, communications staff told the Phoenix in a phone interview. The rebrand included opening a new X, formerly known as Twitter, account and updating the logos used across platforms. Aside from implementing a new look, the party plans to push out Spanish translations of the messaging on their English accounts and content targeted toward Latino voters. In the 2022 election, Gov. Ron DeSantis won Miami-Dade County — the largest county in Florida — by more than 10 points. He was the first Republican governor to win the county in 20 years. Miami-Dade has been a stronghold for Democrats for decades, but in recent election cycles, Republicans have been making inroads. Overall, almost 70 percent of Miami-Dade is Hispanic, according to the U.S. Census. Phoenix political reporter Mitch Perry contributed to this report.
