Patronis ratioed on X for post about emergency alert [1] ['Christian Casale', 'More From Author', '- October'] Date: 2023-10-04 Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis has not learned the immortal lesson of the internet for politicians: You don’t have to tweet. Patronis was ratioed on X, formally Twitter, on Wednesday after complaining about the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s nationwide emergency alert test – the reason Americans were suddenly startled by their cell phones around 2:20 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. “Was this really necessary? The federal government just scared 70%+ of American [sic] with this alert,” Patronis posted Wednesday afternoon. “This is way too much Federal Government for me. FM/AM radio and Broadcast TV is [sic] plenty to get your alerts out.” The patrons of X seemed to disagree, and the CFO’s post filled both conventional definitions of a ratio: More quotes than likes or reposts and an obscene number of replies – more than 1,600 as of publication, compared to only 209 likes. The alert itself was meant to test the federal Wireless Emergency Alert and Emergency Alert System, which FEMA is required to conduct every three years, the agency posted Wednesday. “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System,” the alert said. “The purpose is to maintain and improve alert and warning capabilities at the federal, state, local, and tribal levels and to evaluate the nation’s public alert and warning capabilities. No action is required by the public.” Patronis has also been attacking the Internal Revenue Service for the past couple of months now. At the recent Republican Party of Florida’s Statesman’s dinner in Orlando, Patronis said he wanted to “defund the IRS.” “They’re hiring an army of agents, and they’re going to come after the state of Florida,” Patronis declared, adding that those agents would “examine every single transaction” that individuals make, and “we have got to stop this politically motivated political process from attacking law abiding Americans, law abiding Floridians.” [END] --- [1] Url: https://floridaphoenix.com/2023/10/04/patronis-ratioed-on-x-for-post-about-emergency-alert/ Published and (C) by Florida Phoenix Content appears here under this condition or license: Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/floridaphoenix/
