RFK Jr. campaign set to begin work on getting ballot access in FL soon • Florida Phoenix [1] ['Mitch Perry', 'More From Author', '- March'] Date: 2024-03-14 Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as a political independent candidate in the 2024 presidential campaign, says he’ll soon select his vice-presidential running mate. And when he does, his team will begin the process to get Kennedy’s ticket on the November ballot in Florida. “Florida requires that the campaign name a VP to start petitioning,” the press team for the Kennedy campaign told the Phoenix on Thursday. “Once that happens, volunteers will be petitioning across Florida. The Kennedy campaign announced in a press release on Wednesday that that RFK Jr. will announce his vice-presidential candidate on March 26 in Oakland, California. Thus far, Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets quarterback, and Jesse Ventura, a former Minnesota governor and professional wrestler, appear to be on the shortlist for RFK Jr.’s vice presidential running mate, according to The New York Times. A staff writer at the Los Angeles Times wrote that Kennedy Jr. “has developed a reputation as a conspiracy theorist.” It won’t be an easy lift for the Kennedy campaign to get on the ballot in Florida. State law says that independent candidates for president and vice president candidates may have their names printed on general election ballots if a petition is signed by 1 percent of the registered voters in the state, as compiled by the state’s Division of Elections for the last preceding general election. That means that the Kennedy campaign will need to collect 145,040 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot, per the state’s Federal Qualifying Handbook. According to state election law, a separate petition from each county for which the signatures were solicited shall be submitted to the supervisors of election of the respective county no later than noon on July 15. The Kennedy campaign says it intends on getting on the ballot on all 50 states by November. And it has been holding virtual trainings for volunteers in recent weeks in Florida. Among third-party candidates considering a run for the president, Kennedy does the best among them in a Harris/X poll national survey released earlier this week. Based on the question: If the 2024 election for president were held today and it was between the following candidates, who would you vote for? The answer shows Donald Trump at 41%, Joe Biden at 35%, and RFK Jr. at 12%.
