Friday is the deadline for Idaho voters to register to vote early before the May 21 primary election.

In order to register to vote or update their voter registration, Idahoans may visit the state’s official www.voteidaho.gov website or visit their local county elections office by Friday’s deadline.

“Registering to vote online is simple and can save you time at the polls during Election Day,” Ada County Clerk Trent Tripple said in a news release. “For those already registered, I urge you to verify and update your details to ensure a seamless voting process.”

If voters miss Friday’s early registration, they still have options to vote in this year’s primary election. Idaho allows same-day voter registration at the polls during the May 21 primary election and during early voting.

Friday’s deadline to register to vote early before this year’s primary election is especially important for voters who plan to vote by absentee ballot. Voters have until May 10 to request an absentee ballot, but in order to request an absentee ballot, they have to have registered to vote or updated their voter registration by Friday’s deadline.

This year – beginning with the May 21 primary election – Idahoans will vote in races for the U.S. House of Representatives, Idaho House of Representatives, Idaho Senate, Idaho Supreme Court, Idaho appellate court and county offices, such as commissioner, sheriff and prosecutor. Depending on where voters live, other local taxing district races or elections may also appear on their ballot.

This year’s primary election is scheduled to take place on May 21. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for in-person voting that day.
