The town hall will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Boise VA Medical Center in its Learning Resource Center (Building 29 on the VA campus). Idahoans can also participate virtually via an online link. To attend virtually, click this link to join the meeting on Microsoft Teams or call in (audio only) at 1-205-235-3524. The phone conference ID number is 853 052 710#. The COMPACT Act, which was signed into law in 2023, is a law that allows veterans who are suffering from a mental health crisis to receive immediate care and help from any hospital — private or a VA facility — at no cost to the veteran. Any veteran – whether enrolled in VA or not – can go to a VA or non-VA emergency room for emergent suicidal care, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Under the act, the VA will provide the treatment or cover the costs for treatment including transportation, inpatient or crisis residential care for up to 30 days, and outpatient care for up to 90 days.
