These events are open to everyone regardless of fishing experience, according to a press release. Participants can fish in the designated areas without a license. Young participants must be accompanied by an adult. The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests and partners will host the free events at the following three locations: When: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. local time Where: Wilkins Pond, near Grangeville The Salmon River Ranger District, Grangeville Lions Club, Idaho Department of Fish and Game and the Bureau of Land Management’s Cottonwood Field Office will be hosting the 34th annual Free Fishing Day event. The event will include a casting contest, fish art activity, a raffle and awards for the biggest and smallest fish caught. When: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time Where: Deer Creek Reservoir, near Pierce This event is part of a larger fishing derby offering cash prizes. Anyone can participate, even if they don’t wish to enter the competition. This location features smooth trails, fishing piers and a boardwalk— making it an ideal spot for children and those who need easier access to fishing areas.
