Idaho National Guard to host community cleanup at Morley Nelson Conservation Area • Idaho Capital Sun [1]

The Idaho National Guard is hosting a community cleanup from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 22 at the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area.

As public activity in the area has increased, so has the accumulation of waste and other items along Pleasant Valley Road. The cleanup effort aims to address the debris that has built up over time, according to a press release from the Idaho National Guard.

“Preserving and enhancing the environment is one of the most important things we do in the Idaho National Guard,” Adjutant General of Idaho and Commander of the Idaho National Guard, Maj. Gen. Michael Garshak said in the release. “The reason we have a military is to preserve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all citizens and to enjoy the freedom of living in this beautiful environment, state and country. We aren’t just taking care of the environment so that we can train on it. We actually train so that we can protect this beautiful environment.”

Dumpsters will be provided at multiple locations along Pleasant Valley Road, and volunteers should wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear, according to the release.

The event will also include informational booths offering safe shooting tips, details on the guard’s environmental initiatives and displays of military vehicles. Attendees will have the chance to learn about the guard’s role in environmental conservation and get a closer look at national defense equipment.
