The pipe break occurred early Thursday morning in the company’s building in Des Moines. “Our techs are working hard to fix a service disruption, caused by a water pipe break, which is affecting landline 911, phone, and Internet service for some customers in Central and Eastern Iowa. Restoring impacted services is our top priority. We’ll provide regular updates, and we appreciate your patience and understanding,” Mark Molzen, Lumen global issues director, told WHO-13. Calls coming from landline phones are not being received but wireless 911 calls are, the Des Moines Police Department said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. ***ATTENTION*** Administrative phone lines are not properly functioning at this time. 911 remains operational. Until updated, if you need any police, fire, or mental health services, please call 911. pic.twitter.com/4RAvc5CK00 — Des Moines Police (@DMPolice) May 30, 2024 Issues with 911 services and other phone services were being reported throughout the state. Iowa Radiology sent an email to patients reporting a “metro wide” phone outage caused by a water line break. State officials encourage residents to call or text 911 via their mobile devices for emergencies. No timeline has been released for when the issue will be resolved. This is a developing story.
