Last week, after all eight AA district superintendents and four county superintendents had expressed a lack of confidence in Arntzen given a series of problems at the agency, a couple of school trustees released a letter stating their support for her. The names Bobby Hauck and Stacey Hauck appeared among the signers to the letter. Last week, Bobby Hauck did not respond to an email from the Daily Montanan asking to confirm whether he had signed the letter. However, the Missoulian said this week Hauck has since circulated an email stating that although he supports public school teachers and administrators, he hadn’t read or signed the letter himself, and a family member added his name. Arntzen is in her second term, and the Republican superintendent has sparked controversy. The Montana Federation of Public Employees noted last week a petition asking her to stop undermining public education had garnered more than 2,000 signatures in just 24 hours. In an earlier statement, Arntzen had said she would take the concerns raised by superintendents seriously. She also said the comments were politically motivated.
