His heritage is Anishaabe-Ojibwe and he said that America doesn’t need more politicians, but it needs the type of leadership from Indian Country – a “true chief” who will listen. “Our way of life is deteriorating,” said Walking Child, a Helena-area businessman. He believes that three things will help bring America back to greatness – prayer in school, saving the small rancher and farmer, and finally, more help to America’s veterans. Editor’s note: Four candidates are on the ballot for the Republican nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives in Montana’s eastern district. The candidates are incumbent Congressman Matt Rosendale, Kyle Austin, Charles Walking Child, and James Boyette. He said for a country in which politicians often take an oath on the Bible, that God is getting thrown out of too many institutions, especially school. If elected to Congress, he would work hard to protect prayer in school, and restore the place of religion in civic life. He criticized Democrats for being both godless and globalists, trying to change everyone to a single language and “one world order.” He said that the Bible itself proves that God wanted diversity, different languages, and for power not to be consolidated, yet America has forgotten the lesson of the Tower of Babel. “In my culture, and it used to be before meetings, before sporting events, before anything, there was a prayer,” he said. He said that his worldview comes from a Christian viewpoint, and only two nations have ever been so blessed by God, Babylon and America. “Every other kingdom has not been of God, but instead of what you guys call ‘Satan,’” Walking Child said. “God wants us to realize the beauty of the Constitution. But America is coming close to Babylon.” More help to veterans He said that while Congress has spent plenty of money on the military, its investment stops after the active-duty soldier retires. “They’re the most underserved population,” Walking Child said. He favors doing more to make sure that veterans have access to housing, and he vows to fight against the epidemic of homelessness among vets. “I believe every veteran should have a home and every veteran should have a payment,” Walking Child said. Transportation He said with the rising cost of fuel and the expansive nature of Montana, more needs to be done to ensure reliable, efficient transportation. He believes that an investment not unlike that of the federal interstate highway system may be needed in order to upgrade America’s rail system. Walking Child said as many as 1.8 million jobs could be created by building a more robust rail system to move people and goods. It would also help reduce carbon emissions as well as reduce the burden of spiking gas prices. He said America still needs to drill for more oil and gas because the country will continue to rely on it. “I am all in favor of drilling oil. We’re going to need oil and gas, but why is it so high?” Walking Child said. “It ain’t because of Putin, it’s because we’re not producing enough. We can make safe, enclosed pipelines.” He said that more oil pipelines, like Keystone XL, would help oil get to markets more efficiently and faster. However, he said he favors some tighter regulation because the rising cost of gas and oil only seems to “make the rich richer.” ‘War on Drugs’ Walking Child said part of restoring America is by putting more funding toward police officers, especially in urban areas. In addition to that, he’s calling for extreme sanctions and measures against the Mexican government because of the fentanyl crisis. He said he’s witnessed more than 100 members of his community die due to the highly addictive, deadly opiate. “It’s non-discriminatory,” Walking Child said. “We need to launch our biggest campaign against the Mexican government and unite as Americans.” Boxcar childhood Walking Child and his family grew up outside of Great Falls in an area he calls “Hill 57.” Walking Child said it was an area out of town where other Indian families lived. He grew up going with his family to the dump where they’d pick through items, finding ways to fix and restore them to make a living. He went to high school at Charles M. Russell High and later to the University of Great Falls and the University of Montana. He said that he decided to run because of his disgust with the representation of Rosendale in Congress. “Rosendale is not out for Montana conservatives, he’s out for himself,” Walking Child said. He said Rosendale is bought and paid for by out-of-state interests and doesn’t flinch when calling Rosendale “a hooker.” He said while he has problems with Rosendale, the Republican Party has welcomed him. He chides Democrats for creating a “communist society” for Native Americans on reservations. He said that support and money that flows from the federal government in the form of checks and payments is really just communism in disguise, and Natives go along with it because they get paid. He said most of the Natives in Montana are “Tester’s Indians,” referring to Democrat Sen. Jon Tester, because they need the money. “It’s the Democrats who have been holding our people down,” he said. “We have to put the corrupt socialism down. Just look what it’s done to the Native people, and they want to do it to everyone in Montana.” [END] [1] Url: https://dailymontanan.com/2022/05/23/walking-child-emphasizes-prayer-in-school-saving-small-ag-and-helping-americas-veterans/ Content is licensed through Creative Commons license CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/montanan/
