Treasure, Bighorn and Musselshell counties enter stage 1 fire restrictions – Daily Montanan [1] ['Keith Schubert', 'More From Author', '- July'] Date: 2022-07 As experts warn of increased wildland fire risks, Treasure, Bighorn and Musselshell counties all entered Stage 1 fire restrictions this week. A press release from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks said the agency will follow the counties’ leads in placing fire restrictions on FWP properties within the counties, meaning, among other things, campfires are not allowed. As of Wednesday, Montana was at Preparedness Level 2 out of 5, compared to the national level of 3 out of 5. There are currently 49 active fires and three large fires burning in Montana — the Clover, Hog Trough and Van Sky Road fires — together they have burned around 1,500 acres. Of the 903 total fires this year, 115 have started this week, and experts expect more are on the way in August as temperatures rise. Under the fire restrictions, people may not smoke except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is cleared of flammable materials. But recreationists may still cook on a liquid petroleum gas or propane stove that can be turned on and off. The following FWP sites in Treasure County will be impacted by fire restrictions: Amelia Island Fishing Access Site and Wildlife Management Area, Myers Bridge FAS, and Isaac Homestead Wildlife Management Area. In Bighorn County, Rosebud Battlefield State Park will be under restrictions. Musselshell County has no impacted FWP sites. These restrictions at FWP sites will be in place until further notice. In the release, FWP urged people to use caution while they are out recreating due to dry conditions and fire dangers.
