Republicans in Ravalli and Lewis and Clark 'formally' reject results of 2020 election – Daily Montanan [1]

Two Republican committees in Montana have recently passed resolutions rejecting the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The Ravalli County Republican Central Committee and the Lewis and Clark County Montana Republican Party passed the resolutions on July 5 and 11, respectively. The resolutions were adopted just before the Montana Republican Party’s platform convention in Billings this weekend.

Neither committee responded for a request for comment on the resolutions.

The resolutions are similar to those passed by Republicans in Maricopa County, Arizona, the Republican Party of Texas and the Republican Party of Langlade County, Wisconsin.

Both Montana committees wrote in the resolutions that they “formally” reject the results and the 2020 election and “hold that Joseph Robinette Jr. was not legitimately elected by the majority of the people of the United States.”

The resolutions echo ideas of widespread fraud in the 2020 election that have swirled around Republican circles both nationally and in Montana, but multiple investigations and court rulings have shown these claims to be baseless.

In Montana, Republican Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen has defended the security of the state’s election processes.

“We strongly urge all Americans to ensure election integrity and accountability steps are in place and enforced, and to correct all fraud and weaknesses identified in all states in the 2020 election,” both resolutions read.

The resolutions call for a Standing Legislative Election Committee to investigate the 2020 election and to put into Montana law that “any election machines have all software and hardware fully transparent to the public and until such as they are, all ballots are counted by hand.”

Additionally, the resolutions call for the Montana Secretary of State to leave the National Association of Secretaries of State.
