MFPE endorses Democrat Monica Tranel in Western Congressional race – Daily Montanan [1]

The Montana Federation of Public Employees announced on Monday its endorsement of Monica Tranel in the race for Montana’s Western Congressional District.

Tranel, a Democrat, is running against Republican nominee Ryan Zinke and independent John Lamb.

“Monica Tranel is a bona fide advocate for the working families of Montana,” MFPE President Amanda Curtis said in a press release. “She’s spent her career fighting for the people of Montana.”

Per the release, the decision to endorse Tranel for Congress was made by MFPE member-leaders from across the state who conducted in-depth interviews focused on issues affecting MFPE members, including public funding of public services, inflation, housing costs and pensions.

Curtis continued, “Montanans are fed up with government corruption and need a Congressperson who’s ready to do something about it. In this election, the choice couldn’t be more clear. While Tranel spent her career fighting for working-class families, ranchers, and farmers, Ryan Zinke left the Trump administration in shame … .”

Earlier this month, MFPE endorsed independent Gary Buchanan in Montana’s Eastern Congressional race. Buchanan is going up against incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Matt Rosendale and Democrat Penny Ronning.

In a Monday statement, Tranel thanked MFPE.

“There’s a clear choice this November, a candidate with a pattern of abusing his office and wasting your tax dollars or someone that will put Montana families first and work for the betterment of our communities as their top priority. I’m excited to have Montana’s largest union and its members joining me on the trail to elect a people first candidate,” Tranel said in the press release. “I’ve spent my career fighting for working Montanans. I’ve taken on some of the biggest corporations, and won – saving people millions. We need to strengthen workers’ rights, empower working families, and address the affordability crisis gripping working families, not elect more sold-out, corrupt politicians.”
