Zinke continues to out-raise Tranel, but Tranel pulls more Montana money – Daily Montanan [1] ['Keila Szpaller', 'More From Author', '- October'] Date: 2022-10-17 Republican Ryan Zinke has pulled in $5.5 million since Montana’s U.S. House of Representatives race started, more than double the total $2.4 million Democrat Monica Tranel has brought in — but Tranel has raised roughly twice as much money from Montana. That’s according to data provided from her campaign, information Lee Enterprises attributed to the Zinke campaign, and data from the Federal Election Commission. Zinke, a retired U.S. Navy SEAL, and Tranel, a Missoula lawyer, are running to represent Montana’s new western district. Libertarian and farmer John Lamb is on the ballot but has not filed a report with the FEC. Tranel’s campaign identified more than $2 million coming from Montana so far, or some 83 percent of her total take. A Lee story said some $1 million has come from Montana to the Zinke campaign, which would represent roughly 18 percent of all the money he has raised through the most recent quarter. In the quarter ending Sept. 30, Zinke pulled in $1.7 million compared to Tranel’s $1.1 million. Tranel’s campaign identified some $815,000 of that quarterly total as having come from Montana. Zinke’s campaign did not respond to an email Monday about fundraising. Zinke’s wife owns a primary residence in California, and the Santa Barbara Independent has described the candidate as a former resident of the city. Of the $2.68 million in itemized contributions he’s received through the end of September, $265,629 has come from California, and $857,000 from Montana, according to data from the FEC. Zinke, former U.S. Secretary of the Interior who previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives, remains the favorite in the race, although he has lost ground since the primary, according to national analysts. The Cook Political Report lists the district as “likely Republican.” However, since August, Inside Elections has shifted the race from “likely Republican” to “leans Republican,” and FiveThirtyEight has Zinke winning 94 times out of 100 instead of 98 times. Tranel enters the last weeks of the race with $353,000 of cash on hand, and Zinke still has $525,000 to spend, according to their Oct. 15 FEC reports.
