Canvassers conduct random sample of '22 election – Daily Montanan [1] ['Daily Montanan Staff', 'More From Author', '- November'] Date: 2022-11 Last week, the Montana Board of Canvassers, convened to complete the random-sample audit selection for the 2022 General Election. The canvass’ purpose is two-fold — first, it’s required by law after an election in order to certify results. Secondly, it checks the accuracy of results by auditing random precincts and races to ensure election integrity. The precincts are chosen at random by rolling dice. Representatives from the Attorney General’s Office, Office of Public Instruction and the State Auditor’s Office randomly selected the races, ballot issue and precincts to be audited. Representatives took turns rolling the dice, and the list of audited races can be found here. Montana’s Post-Election Audit Act requires manually hound counting the votes of the selected races for comparison with the tabulated results. “Today’s random selection of races and precincts is a continuation of the quality-control measures found in law,” said Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen.
