Montana reports first influenza death for 2022-23 season – Daily Montanan [1] ['Daily Montanan Staff', 'More From Author', '- December'] Date: 2022-12 A Billings man was confirmed to be the first influenza death of the 2022-2023 season, according to a joint press release from RiverStone Health and the state’s health department. The Yellowstone County resident, who was elderly and unvaccinated, passed away at a Billings hospital over Thanksgiving weekend, the news release said. Flu cases in Montana have been increasing in recent weeks after the first one was reported in late September. As of Nov. 30, Yellowstone County has seen reports of 474 flu cases, 29 hospitalizations and one death, the release said, citing RiverStone Health records. Statewide as of Nov. 19, there have been 957 cases and 27 hospitalizations, according to Montana’s Department of Public Health and Human Services. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to recommend getting a flu vaccine because it is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against influenza and its potentially serious complications. You can search where to get your annual flu shot at vaccines.gov/find-vaccines/. The flu spreads through coughing and sneezing with symptoms that can include high fever, chills, headaches, exhaustion, sore throat, cough and body aches. It may take about one to four days after being exposed to the virus for symptoms to develop. Additionally, you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else one day before symptoms develop and up to five to seven days after becoming sick. Everyday precautions can help stop the spread of influenza: [END] --- [1] Url: https://dailymontanan.com/briefs/montana-reports-first-influenza-death-for-2022-23-season/ Published and (C) by Daily Montanan Content appears here under this condition or license: Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/montanan/
