Flament’s seat – Daily Montanan [1] ['Daily Montanan Staff', 'More From Author', '- January'] Date: 2023-01 Former legislator Ed Butcher was selected to fill Rep. Doug Flament’s seat in House District 29 near Lewistown, as confirmed by a House GOP spokesperson. The Republican central committees in Fergus and Petroleum counties chose three candidates, including Terry Gill and John Koch, according to Communications Director Madison Atkinson. Fergus County and Petroleum County Commissioners selected Butcher, who served two terms in the Senate and then in the House for three terms in the early ‘00s. Butcher ran the controversial website legislatorloyalty.com, which ranked Republican legislators by their voting record in line with the party’s caucus. Flament, R-Lewistown, submitted his resignation due to health reasons to the Secretary of State’s Office last week. Flament represented Fergus and Petroleum counties as the representative for House District 29 after being sworn in mid-term to fill a vacancy left by Sen. Dan Bartel, who left the position after Ryan Osmundson was appointed to be Gov. Greg Gianforte’s budget director.
