Country club deck collapses in Billings. 25 sent to the hospital, none killed – Daily Montanan [1] ['Darrell Ehrlick', 'More From Author', '- July'] Date: 2023-07 A total of 25 people were taken to Billings hospitals on Saturday evening after a deck collapsed at a country club, and despite the large number of people hurt, no one was killed or critically injured. The call from Briarwood Golf Club, 3429 Briarwood Blvd., came into emergency dispatchers at 7:50 p.m., according to City of Billings officials. That triggered a mass casualty activation, with crews responding from the Billings Fire Department, American Medical Response, Laurel Emergency Medical Services, and two ground units from the St. Vincent Healthcare HELP flight – a total of 16 units in all. It took crews 64 minutes to transport all those injured to the hospitals, according to police dispatcher records with ambulances taking the most severely injured first. All patients were adults and the medical condition of them is not known, but Victoria Hill, the public information officer for the City of Billings, told the Daily Montanan on Monday morning that no critical injuries or fatalities were reported. Eight patients were treated at the scene. It’s unknown how many people either did not need medical treatment or walked away from scene. It’s also unknown how many people were on the deck when it collapsed. Hill said that in cases like this, the insurance carrier for the golf club may be investigating, but neither city nor state authorities will produce a follow-up investigation. “Once a building is complete and permitted, we don’t usually follow up with inspections,” Hill said. City officials also said that Briarwood was hosting a golf tournament with 250 people registered. The Billings Fire Department had 11 units respond to the scene. The Billings Police Department had 12 units on scene to help with patients, crowd control and directing traffic. The Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office also had units directing traffic. Law enforcement agencies worked to clear roads around both Billings Clinic and St. Vincent for emergency medical transport on Saturday night.
