Cleanup nears completion after 4th of July Storm In Yellowstone – Daily Montanan [1] ['Aislin Tweedy', 'More From Author', '- July'] Date: 2023-07-07 Cleanup nears completion after 4th of July Storm In Yellowstone Cleanup nears completion after 4th of July Storm In Yellowstone by Aislin Tweedy, Daily Montanan July 7, 2023 A Yellowstone National Park crew was expecting to reach the end of a cleanup and damage assessment this week from a storm that hit during the 4th of July weekend, according to the Yellowstone public affairs office. However, Executive Director Terese Petcoff of Gardiner Montana’s Chamber of Commerce reported that the storm did not have any damage to businesses in the North Entrance. “While we are used to an afternoon thunderstorm on a regular basis, there was not anything on July 3rd in Gardiner that impacted day-to-day operation,” said Petcoff in a text. On Monday, a major windstorm and rain impacted the southern portion of Lake Village of Yellowstone National Park, and multiple buildings and vehicles were struck by trees, including a building that is adjacent to the Lake Hotel, according to the park. This building and three cabins were evacuated and remain closed for cleanup and repairs. There were no disruptions to visitor services nor any injuries or fatalities. The crews cleared trees from roads, campgrounds, and critical infrastructure. “Monday night’s storm event hit the Lake area very hard,” said Superintendent Cam Sholly in a statement. “The National Park Service team and our partners quickly stabilized the situation and got recovery efforts started immediately.” During the July 3rd storm, several hundred trees were blown down throughout the area including Lake Hotel, Lake Lodge, Lake Medical Clinic, Lake General Store, Lake employee housing areas, and Bridge Bay Campground and marina. A Yellowstone National Park public affairs officer said power was restored to Bridge Bay Campground 8 p.m. on July 5.
