U.S. Attorney for Montana: Butte man sentenced for murder on Blackfeet Indian Reservation – Daily Montanan [1] ['Aislin Tweedy', 'More From Author', '- July'] Date: 2023-07-12 Terrance Travis Aimsback, 35, was sentenced to 15 years and 10 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for murdering a woman during an argument on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, according to a news release Wednesday from the U.S. Attorneys Office, District of Montana. “Aimsback earned this significant sentence based on his violent conduct that led to murdering his romantic partner,” said U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich in a statement. “We will, and we must, hold perpetrators of violence against Native American women accountable.” In March, Aimsback pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the case presided over by Chief U.S. District Judge Brian Morris, according to the news release. The government alleged that Aimsback murdered Jane Doe in 2022 by beating her to death with a stick after an argument and then lied to law enforcement to attempt to cover up the murder, the news release said. Jane Doe and Aimsback were in a romantic relationship at that time. On Nov. 24, 2022, Aimsback called 911, claiming that Jane Doe would not wake, despite the fact she was still breathing, the news release said. Law enforcement showed up and found that Jane Doe had been dead for hours. “The Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s movement is one of the most important causes of our time, which is why our office will continue to seek justice for victims to ensure Native women and girls are protected.,” Laslovich said in the news release. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Timothy Racicot and Ryan Weldon prosecuted the case. The FBI, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services and Pondera County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.
