Gianforte recognizes vets ahead of 2023 Veteran Commendation announcement – Daily Montanan [1] ['Daily Montanan Staff', 'More From Author', '- November'] Date: 2023-11 Gov. Greg Gianforte recognized four of the 51 veterans who received the 2022 Governor’s Veteran Commendation in a ceremony at the state Capitol on Monday ahead of his announcement of the 2023 recipients this Friday. He awarded the four recipients – Army Captain Steven Page of Billings, Navy Petty Officer Paul Thomae of Laurel, Air Force Senior Airman Les Johnson of Havre, and Army Specialist William Dooley of Wolf Creek – with a State of Montana flag flown over the Capitol and letters thanking them for their military service. “We owe our veterans an eternal debt of gratitude for answering our nation’s call to service,” Gianforte said in a statement. “These veterans extended their service beyond the armed forces, making the Last Best Place an even better place through their commitment to community.” The Governor’s Veteran Commendation is handed out to several dozen Montanans every year who served their country in the Armed Forces and who have demonstrated service to their community. Thirty-one veterans received the commendation in 2021, along with 51 last year. The Governor’s Office put out a call for nominees this summer and will announce the recipients on Friday ahead of Veterans Day. “For the governor to take the time out to do this for our veterans, it’s very much appreciated,” Johnson, one of the recipients, said in a statement. “Thank you to my family; I couldn’t have done all of this by myself.” [END] --- [1] Url: https://dailymontanan.com/briefs/gianforte-recognizes-vets-ahead-of-2023-veteran-commendation-announcement/ Published and (C) by Daily Montanan Content appears here under this condition or license: Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/montanan/
