Reward for information on poached wolverine increases to $21K – Daily Montanan [1] ['Blair Miller', 'More From Author', '- December'] Date: 2023-12 The reward for information leading to the conviction of the person responsible for poaching a wolverine in November near Wisdom has increased to $21,500. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is still looking for information on who shot, skinned, and then abandoned the wolverine, which was found on Nov. 10 northwest of Wisdom on U.S. Forest Service Road 7377 near Schultz Saddle and the Continental Divide and reported to a game warden. The department said Thursday the reward for information had been boosted by donations from the Animal Defense Fund, Trap Free Montana, Skyline Sportsmen in Butte, the Center for Biological Diversity, and through the state’s tip program. Killing a wolverine in Montana is illegal, and at the end of November, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service decided to list the animal as a threatened species, which will take effect in coming weeks. There are an estimated 250-300 North American wolverines in the Lower 48. Anyone with information about the illegal poaching can submit a tip online or through FWP’s tip line at 1-800-TIP-MONT.
