The war within is happening – Daily Montanan [1] ['More From Author', 'December', 'Norma Buchanan'] Date: 2023-12-30 I don’t know about you, but I am sick and tired of the constant barrage of fear driven politics. Candidates sending out mailings wearing camouflage uniforms, using words such as; “emboldened extremists,” “D.C. cartels,” “bureaucrats conducting armed raids on Americans,” “Washington is a swamp” is all ludicrous and a seriously misled connotation implying there is a war against law-abiding citizens by our own government”. I suggest to many presently representing us in elected office in Montana and in Washington D.C., to take a look in their own mirror. Where has the oath of honor and respect gone when an elected individual is sworn in to serve “we the people?” Instead ask why they are going to “war” against our own people? Is the drumbeat of a ‘grave threat to our nation at our borders?” What do you think, or is the grave threat within the ranks of our elected representatives? Critical thinking is vital. Yes, we have a border crisis and yes, we can figure this out, if elected officials listen to their constituents and speak to one another. This is democracy at work. Using the phrase “the D.C. Cartel conjures up corruption to the worst degree” is destructive and hateful and offers no promise nor hope for our country. Banning books, displaying intolerance for our fellow citizens based on what their life choices are is not the American way. Each and every one of is an American. We each have our personal freedom to vote, freedom to make our own choices, freedom to speak, and freedom to choose, thanks to the Constitution written by our founders. Does anyone out there still understand that democracy is built on the premise of electing representatives to our government who are elected to share our differences in thought and respective ideas? Are they trying to find solutions for all of us, and not just one side? I call these honorable people “public servants.” They offer their time and duty to the country when they opt to serve in public office. Our government of democracy provides a sensible structure for a country composed of people from all backgrounds, all walks of life, myriads of different beliefs and religions and ideas. Christianity is one of many religions in this country. White is not the only color. Women are not second-class citizens. One’s sexuality is biological and not a choice. Human beings are all equal, and it is not government’s business to interfere in this privacy for every American. To suggest one party is evil is absurd in a democracy. If we did not believe in science, we would still believe the earth is flat. The constant drumbeat of fear is infectious and is downgrading our freedom at an alarming rate. “Vermin”, “Democrats”, “Republicans” and other common words are now used derogatorily and are freely spewed out of the mouths of many elected officials daily. We must get a grip. Otherwise, we will find ourselves in a country that is no longer a democracy and ruled entirely by individuals who will dictate the rule of law on a whim and will no longer care what we think. We take our freedom for granted. If we don’t stand up against this heinous and destructive war amongst us, our freedoms will be lost. Consider this: If we continue to turn our heads and stop paying attention as we are doing now, a “home town” American city near you could soon become a place where trains will transport those of us who are condemned by authority to place not so unlike Auschwitz or Buchenwald.
