Montana delegation responds to SOTU • Daily Montanan [1] ['Keila Szpaller', 'More From Author', '- March'] Date: 2024-03 Members of Montana’s congressional delegation sent out remarks Thursday about President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address. Democrat and U.S. Sen. Jon Tester said he’d stand up to Biden whenever necessary even though they’re in the same party, and Republican U.S. Sen. Steve Daines said the president owes America an apology. Said Tester, Montana’s senior senator and chairperson of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee: “It was an honor to be joined tonight by Fred Hamilton, a courageous veteran from Columbia Falls, Montana, who was exposed to toxins during his service in Vietnam and is now receiving the benefits he earned because of the PACT Act. The PACT Act is an example of what can happen if elected leaders stand up to Washington, D.C., and tackle pressing issues for Montanans, like honoring our commitment to our nation’s veterans, lowering the cost of housing and groceries, securing our southern border and stopping the deadly flow of fentanyl to keep our communities safe, and staying ahead of the threat of China. While President Biden addressed some of these issues tonight, I have made it clear that I will stand up to his Administration when he fails to get the job done for our state. Montanans sent me to the Senate to go to bat for rural America, and I’ll continue to work with anyone – Republican or Democrat – to ensure we remain the greatest state in the greatest country in the world.” Said Sen. Daines, who is also head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, in advance of the address: “Tonight’s State of the Union should be the kick off of Joe Biden’s apology tour. The first three words out of his mouth should be ‘I’m sorry, America.’ From the wide-open southern border to sky-high prices to emboldening our enemies abroad, the state of our union is in crisis, and no amount of sugarcoating will change that. It’s time for Joe Biden to own up to his disastrous record.” Republican U.S. Rep. Matt Rosendale said this: “Just now leaving the State of the Union address, after sitting there listening to the President deliver his speech. I could tell you, by far, the highlight of the evening for me was having my friend Larry Mayer, a journalist from Billings, attend the event tonight is my special guest. He was as many of you remember, the gentleman who took photographs and produced the first images of the Chinese spy ballon last year that flew over Montana and the rest of the country. The rest of the speech, unfortunately, was filled with a bunch of very expensive promises, giveaways by the Democrat party and the Biden administration, and higher taxes for what he would consider the rich and wealthy. This is the same scenario that they use time and time again and, to me, it was just a very good bedtime story because it was just full of fairytales.” [END] --- [1] Url: https://dailymontanan.com/briefs/montanas-u-s-senators-respond-to-sotu/ Published and (C) by Daily Montanan Content appears here under this condition or license: Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. via Magical.Fish Gopher News Feeds: gopher://magical.fish/1/feeds/news/montanan/
