Walking the parade route — the first Nashville Pride parade was held in 1988 — were area politicians and elected officials, including Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell and a contingent of the Metro Nashville Council and state lawmakers, including Sen. Heidi Campbell, a Nashville Democrat, and Democratic Reps Justin Jones of Nashville and Gloria Johnson of Knoxville. On Bicentennial mall, fans and misting machines helped to cool off attendees.
