Berea artist’s work to grace a U.S. embassy – U.S. Department of State [1] [] Date: 2022-08 BEREA, Ohio — When City resident Augusto Bordelois received an email a month or so ago, bearing a U.S. Department of State label, he said his first thought was — it might be a scam. It was in fact a bonafide invitation from the Department of State’s Art in Embassies program curator, inviting Bordelois, an internationally acclaimed artist, to display his work at the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm, Sweden. “They were interested in my immigrant series,” Bordelois said, explaining that two of his pieces — Leaving Home On An Autumn Morning measuring 48- by 72-inches and Trampled by Texans, measuring 35- by 60-in. — both oil on canvas — will be representing him in Stockholm. Bordelois, who was born in Havana, Cuba, is a United States citizen. He has called the U.S. home for the past 23 years. “I’ve been painting since I was ten years old,” he said. Bordelois attended the University of Havana, where he earned a degree in Translation and Interpretation of English Language Literature.
